JOB POSTING: ECC STAFF INSTRUCTOR (Part time, averages 10 hours per week)

Uplift and inspire the next generation of singers! Our Staff Instructor leads and co-leads ensembles of singers in grades 1-12. Teach choral singing and music theory fundamentals, build our choristers’ vocal skills and confidence, and set the foundation for a lifelong love of music. Endolyne Children’s Choir is a secular community choir, offering Kodály-based music education in a fun, engaging environment to singers in grades K-12. Our core values are inclusion, respect, commitment, and teamwork. As a non-audition choir with a full scholarship enrollment option, we strive to eliminate entry barriers and welcome every child who loves to sing.

First Teaching Day: Monday, Sept 8, 2025 (Admin hours begin in mid-Aug)

A successful candidate for this position:

  • Has a deep knowledge of solfege and rhythm practices
  • Can teach sight-singing using the solfege method and Kodály hand signals
  • Holds a BA in Music or Music Education (either earned or in progress). WA State Teaching Certificate preferred.
  • Has basic keyboard skills
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills
  • Has passion for working with young people and a commitment to instilling a love for music

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

● Collaborate with our Artistic Director to instruct singers in grades 1-12:

  • Direct or co-lead weekly rehearsals on Mondays and Tuesdays
  • Assist with lesson planning and repertoire selection
  • Record weekly practice tracks (audio and video) to assist with home practice
  • Lead smaller groups of singers during sectional rehearsals. Correct pitch, intonation, breath support, and other performance practice techniques
  • Correct singers’ stance and vocal technique
  • Assist with classroom set-up/tear-down and sound equipment
  • Lead and conduct rehearsals when Artistic Director is absent
  • Conduct at concerts in collaboration with Artistic Director

● Engage in community-building with our staff, Board, singers, and families

  • Serve as a positive role model by embodying the values of teamwork, respect, commitment, inclusion, and music appreciation
  • Participate in ECC’s outreach and community engagement efforts
  • Attend weekly staff and occBoard meetings
  • Chaperone and conduct singers at local music festivals, parades, and other events
  • Attend annual family pizza party, annual music bingo night, and other community-building events

DETAILS/SCHEDULE/COMPENSATION

Location: We rehearse at 3050 California Ave SW, Seattle, WA 98116

Paid hours average 10 hours per week.

NOTE: We follow the Seattle Public School calendar and do not rehearse on school holidays and breaks.

Early September - Mid June:

  • Monday 4:00 – 7:00 in person (includes 2 rehearsals)
  • Tuesday 4:00 – 8:00 in person (includes 2 rehearsals and staff meeting)
  • Performances/events: Approximately ten throughout the year
  • Flexible admin time: Approximately 2-3 hours/week of lesson planning, emailing, and audio/video recording

Mid-June through August: Paid hours will be flexible and will vary depending on your interest and availability, to possibly include:

  • Participating in West Seattle Parade
  • Recording videos and audio for marketing and onboarding
  • Participating in summer festivals and performance opportunities
  • Preparing for fall session, including lesson planning and selecting repertoire

Salary:

  • $40/hour rehearsals and performances
  • $30/hour admin time
  • $500 annual professional development stipend
