Job Description

The primary purpose of this position is to provide effective assistance to victims/witnesses, refer victims to available programs and resources, advise victims of their statutory rights ensuring legislative mandates are achieved, provide victims’ rights education and community outreach, act as a liaison between the victims and personnel from the County Attorney’s Office and Law Enforcement/Corrections, and apply/report for related grant funding. These responsibilities are estimated to take up 75% of the time. The secondary purpose is to perform administrative and office management duties in support of the County Attorney and the County Attorney’s Office. These responsibilities are estimated to take up 25% of the time of the position.
JOB KNOWLEDGE: Basic criminal statutes and criminal procedures, data privacy laws, local court practices, resources available for victim services and social services referrals, crime victimization issues and crisis intervention techniques and restorative justice principles.

JOB SKILLS: Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing; ability to achieve victim-orientated results while working with and building relationships with the public, interdepartmental County personnel and community partners in a tactful and professional manner; must work within the principles of Restorative Justice; must be able to work independently, prioritizing and managing multiple tasks and consistently meeting deadlines; ability to follow and interpret written and verbal instructions; ability to prepare grant applications and reports to document victim services and provide statistical summaries; prepare and deliver training to County personnel and the public; must be able to work independently, handle highly confidential data and be self-motivated; must maintain a positive attitude. Requires the ability to produce reports, forms and documents in the English language with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar, using all parts of speech. Confidentiality is a requirement
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Paralegal, Sociology or Social Work or related field. Two or more years’ experience in Criminal Justice or related field preferred. Read, write, speak fluent English.

 
LICENSE: Valid driver’s license.

 
CONTINUING EDUCATION: Must attend continuing education courses as appropriate.
PERSONAL COMPUTER (PC) AND EQUIPMENT COMPETENCIES: Word processing skills and skills utilizing Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access) and other software programs used by various County departments. Ability to operate a variety of machines and equipment including computer terminal, typewriter, calculator, copier and multi-line phone system. Ability to scan documents, organize electronically stored data and assess and utilize web pages designed for law enforcement and the courts. Must be at ease in assisting with presentation technology in the courtroom and elsewhere.
